Who We Are
Union County Illinois Alliance of Churches is a loose association of believers from across the denominational spectrum who realize “The Church” is only at its full potential when we act together as one.
Identity and Purpose
The Union County Alliance of Chuches is not a church. We do not own any property, save a small checking account. Everyone who calls themself a member is a volunteer. We are comprised of churches, not for profit organizations, and orther civic organizations. We are of one mind dedicated to the improvement of the human condition in this area of Southern Illinois we call home.
This condition is the current deplorable, and obvious state of our culture typified by rampant homelessness, a growing distressed, dispirited, and addicted population, bent on destruction, self-entitlement, and total disregard for their fellow man. We want to help, but not by applying bandages to the symptoms. We’ve done that for many years and nothing has changed for the better, it just got worse.
We want to use our meager resources where they have at lease a chance of making things better. We want to be involved in treating the root causes of the symtoms we all see on our streets. For the past few years we have been blessed to find people and small groups who are doing just that, and they are successful. Since they clearly know what they’re doing, we come alongside them with encouragment, prayer, and financial assistance as needed. Here are some examples.
One of our members is teaching children to read, one student at a time. Another is serving a sit down meal at her own table every Sunday evening at 6pm for anyone “on the streets.” We assist several teachers in local schools who have recognized hunger, or clothing needs in their students, and then quietly sends needed items home with them in their backpacks. We gladly provide regular monthly financail assistance to these folks. The Alliance itself has been operating a Celebrate Recovery meeting every Saturday at 6pm at Anna Heights Baptist. It is designed to help people who suffering from hurts, hang-ups, and habits including but not limited to: critical spirit (judgmental attitude), pornography, codepnedency (relationship entanglements), eating disorders, selfishness, dysfunctional family dynamics, self-loathing, mixed issues, physical emotional, sexual abuse, sexual integrity, of course drugs and alcohol (chemical dependencies).
In summary, we are truly helping a few peole become citizens rather than burdens on our society, but the Alliance is even more than a benefactor, it is a facilitator for “The Church” at large by offering advanced training programs for common life topics: how to choose a mate, overcoming sin in our lives that adversely affects our Christian walk, or find healing by practicing James 5:16.
This is the tip of the iceberg, come and see. We meet the first Tuesday of every month at 6pm at one of member’s facilities. Every single one of us is as sick as our secrets. Call Kent (618)-614-2974 for more information.

ASSISTANCE FOR THOSE IN NEED
The needs of our distressed community are outgrowing individual church resources ,government programs, and private not for profits. We must make a combined effort to meet basic needs of our citizens. Here’s how we will do our part:
- We will provide prayer and spiritual guidance to anyone who asks.
- We will provide financial help to qualified persons for food, shelter, utilities, and transportation for as long as we have funds.
- When our funds are exhausted we will help those in need find other sources of help.
- We will publish on this website other sources of assistance.
SUPPORTING OTHER CHURCHES
Church unity is imperative if the church is going to make a difference in the lives of the distressed and dispirited living within the boundaries of Union county. The Alliance will foster such unity by:
- Attending one another's worship services
- Praying DAILY for the welfare of every church in the county
- Support local public outreach ministries of every church
- Encourage Christ's love between all churches
